Born at Fox Bay East in 1941, moved to Dunnose Head with his family at the age of six. Started working on the farm at the age of thirteen, moved to Fox Bay on 1960 and worked there until moving to New Zealand in late 1966.

Married Sue in New Zealand in 1970 and had Craig and Jenny, both now living in the Falkland Islands. Has three Falkland Island grandsons.

Got involved with a soccer club and played until aged 50 then got into indoor bowls with two Auckland, five Manukau City and one New Zealand titles. Played golf for many years but the handicap seemed to get stuck on fourteen.

In 2002 George retired and was invited to go to the Falklands and work in an Abattior that was being set up to export lamb and mutton. Returning to New Zealand in October 2003 he joined the Papatoetoe Hunters Corner Bowling Club and has played there ever since, having managed one single and two fours titles and have played rep bowls for Counties Manukau against Auckland on three occasions.
