Soon after her 2004 election as the Member for Currumbin Ms Stuckey was appointed as Shadow Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development. The efforts, enthusiasm and expertise of Bid Chair Mark Stockwell certainly didn't go unnoticed and he was appointed by former Queensland Premier Bligh to lead the OC as Chairman. His appointment was followed by that of the Bid CEO Mark Peters, to take up the position as CEO, Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation.<br />Joining Mr Peters, seven staff from the original bid team have also commenced varying roles with the OC, bringing with them solid relationships with the Commonwealth Games Associations and a broad knowledge of the Gold Coast Games plan, Commonwealth Games Federation requirements and expectations to deliver a great event in 2018.<br />By the end of 2012 the OC will employ approximately 30 staff which will gradually increase to 1000 - 1200, with the bulk of the Games staff being appointed from 2015. Commonwealth Day<b> </b>is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations held on the second Monday in March. He spent much of his youth swimming competitively and studied engineering and commerce at the University of Queensland, and economics at the Australian National University in Canberra while on a swimming scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport. <br />Mark went on to win two silvers and a bronze medal in the 1984 Olympics and a gold medal in the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games and during his swimming career held numerous Australian and Commonwealth records in the 50m and 100m freestyle.<br />He was part of the bid committee for the 1996 Brisbane Olympic bid, was an Ambassador for the 1988 Brisbane Expo and is a former Board member of Australian Swimming.<br />Mark spends his time between Gold Coast City and Brisbane with wife, American three-time Olympic gold medallist Tracy Caulkins and their five children.<br /> ..............................................................................................................................................................<span style="font-family: Arial;" face="Arial"><span style="font-family: Arial;" face="Arial"><span style="font-size: x-small;" size="2"><br /> </span></span></span></span></span></span></p>
